I for one have always been confused by the different identities in the “LGBTQ+” acronym. So let’s break it down!
L- Lesbian: women who are attached to women-identifying people
G- Gay: men who are attracted to men-identifying people
B- Bisexual: someone loving more than one gender
T- Transgender: someone who identifies as a gender other than their gender assigned at birth
Q- Queer: an umbrella term for anyone in the community (can be sexuality, gender, etc)
+- All other identities such as asexual (no sexual attraction to anyone of any gender), pansexual (loving someone regardless of their gender), questioning, etc.
There are SO many more identities! Let me know if there’s one you’d love for me to talk about! I appreciate any and all feedback.
The most important take away I want someone to have from my blog and from this post: there are so many identities and it is important to remain respectful of everyone’s identities! How does one do this? ASK THEM HOW THEY IDENTIFY! Come from a place of curiosity and ask what certain labels someone utilizes and how they define them are so important to getting to know someone in the LGBTQ+ community.
Are you afraid to ask? You are more than welcome to ask me! I strive to be able to communicate within and outside the community in order to continue conversations in a respectful way.
