Exploring Pansexuality

·

Some people think pansexuality is like bisexuality but it includes trans people.

That’s just not true.

I identify as pansexual and I think it’s commonly misunderstood.

Bisexuality already includes trans people. Because trans women are women and trans men are men. So they can’t be excluded unless you’re transphobic.

Bisexuality is usually the attraction of one or more genders. So liking men and women (again this includes trans people).

Pansexuality is more like attraction regardless of gender. For me, I’m attracted to people based on who they are as a person. If they are nice, it doesn’t matter their gender as I will probably be attracted to them! If they are mean or rude, I probably won’t find them attractive even if they are conventionally attractive.

However, there is nuance to my attraction because I do have preferences for masculine traits. It could be a masculine woman or man or anything in between.

Now that isn’t to say that everyone thinks similarly!

If anything, it is important to ask someone how they identify and the way they define that identity.

If you don’t know, ask out of curiosity. But don’t be invasive! No questions about genitals are ever warranted. It’s invasive and honestly just fucking weird.

How do you identify? If it’s similar to me, do you define it differently?
